10 times in 4 years! China Southern Power Grid expands the construction of charging piles

Under the new infrastructure, the construction of charging piles across the country is in full swing. Recently, China Southern Power Grid announced that it will deploy centralized charging stations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hainan Free Trade Zone, and key cities in Guangxi, Yunnan, and Guizhou. It is planned to invest 25.1 billion yuan in the construction of charging facilities in the next four years, building 150 large-scale centralized charging stations and 380,000 charging piles.

It will effectively improve the efficiency of power transmission and utilization, and provide guarantee for the efficient operation of charging piles.

At present, China is the world's largest new energy vehicle market, and both production and sales are in the forefront of the world. In addition to the country's strong subsidies for new energy vehicles, the world's largest charging pile scale is indispensable. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) statistics, as of June 25, 2019, there are 60,652 charging piles in the United States, and most of them are Tesla charging piles. As new infrastructure is proposed, the advantages of China's charging piles will be further expanded.

For new energy vehicle owners, convenient and fast charging services have always been the primary demand. In the next 2-3 years, the vehicle experience of domestic new energy vehicle owners may achieve a breakthrough improvement. What is the concept of 380,000 charging piles? By December 2019, China Southern Power Grid had invested a total of 3.18 billion yuan and built 31,600 charging piles. In other words, the number of new charging piles in the next 4 years will be more than 10 times the existing number! According to data from the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, as of February 2020, there are a total of 531,000 public charging piles in China. It is foreseeable that the number of domestic charging piles will increase tremendously in the next few years.

In the plan of China Southern Power Grid, in addition to building new charging piles, it will also increase R&D investment in the UHV and AI fields. As a key force in UHV DC technology, China Southern Power Research Institute has continuously overcome world-class problems such as insulation characteristics under ultra-high voltage and ultra-high current, electromagnetic environment, equipment development, and test technology. The two west-to-east DC transmission projects and two pumped storage power supply projects under construction by China Southern Power Grid have a total investment of more than 48.8 billion yuan. These new technologies,
